Club statement on Fitness First Sponsorship Chairman Tony Swaisland has issued a statement regarding breaking news about the stadium sponsorship. The Daily Echo today ran a double page spread on the Sale and Leaseback proposals and within them, reported admissions that there was a loan element in the deal with Fitness First. Swaisland is wary however, that The Echo said no more than that, implying the deal was entirely made up of a loan. He has made the following statement:

"I'm grateful to the Daily Echo for putting the story across, but there are a number of mis-leading parts to the article. The sponsorship deal with Fitness First is a complex arrangement based on mutual benefits for both parties. The company requested total confidentiality as to the financial details, which we have adhered to. Claims it was nothing more than the loan on favourable rates are completely untrue.”
“We'd sought long and hard for a partner to sponsor the stadium and Fitness First were the only firm prepared to help us and we are grateful to them for doing so."
Swaisland went on to explain about the abuse from certain quarters of fans since the Sale and Leaseback proposals were brought into the public eye."Whilst my family is concerned at some of the abuse I've been getting, I'm always happy to discuss and answer questions and concerns fans have on the matter. You can do so by e-mailing them to me through the web site on q&a@afcb.co.uk"
